Ivanovich-Tongue, A JANE HENZELL

Exhibition Review, Artifacts : Studio of Contemporary Art – News, Facts & Updates, Issue 29, Oct 2003, p1

If you have been craving fresh and unconventional artwork, Jane Henzell's exhibition ‘Fabricated Rooms' will be of definite interest. Consisting of large enamel and spray-paint on PVC or paper, floral undertakings of everything from Pacifica kitsch to colonial New Zealand flower paintings, Jane's exhibition is truly a visual feast.

‘Fabricated Rooms' embellishes ideas of New Zealand ornamentation and do-it-yourself wallpaper/decorative effects. It responds to the common ‘dreams and disasters' that often occur during the rejuvenation of interior décor, and enables the viewer to ponder the highs and lows on New Zealand suburban culture. You will never look at Otara markets or $2 shops the dismissive way again.
